About Core Coders
Who are Core Coders?
Core Coders is an independent software company founded in 2007 by Steven Wilson. The company was established by a small group of experienced engineers with a shared passion for creating innovative mobile applications.
As one of the early developers on Apple’s App Store, Core Coders launched a number of successful applications during the formative years of mobile software. This period provided a unique opportunity to help shape the emerging app ecosystem and establish a reputation for high-quality, reliable products.
Over time, Core Coders specialised in outdoor sports and activity tracking applications. Our flagship product, Ski Tracks, has become one of the world’s most popular winter sports applications, serving millions of customers worldwide and achieving more than 4 million downloads.
Today, Core Coders continues to develop software focused on sport, health, and outdoor activities, with an emphasis on privacy, reliability, and long-term customer value.
Our Core Principles
Customers, Not Users
At Core Coders, we deliberately refer to the people who use our products as customers, not users.
Many modern software platforms are designed to maximise engagement and encourage people to spend more time within their ecosystems. Our philosophy is different. We create software that helps people achieve real-world goals—whether that’s cycling, skiing, hiking, or improving their health.
We want our applications to enhance people’s lives, not dominate them.
Privacy by Design
We believe privacy is a fundamental right.
Most Core Coders applications can be used without creating an account, allowing customers to retain control of their personal information. Where accounts are offered, they are designed to provide additional convenience rather than being a requirement.
Our privacy commitments include:
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not build advertising profiles.
- We do not use tracking technologies to analyse customers for marketing purposes.
- Customer data is stored securely using industry-standard security practices.
- Passwords are stored using secure hashing and salting techniques and cannot be recovered in plain text.
- Personal information is only disclosed when legally required by a valid court order or applicable law.
Any information shared with us, including support requests and email correspondence, is stored securely and protected using encrypted systems.
No Internet? No Problem.
Many software products assume a constant internet connection. Our products are designed differently.
Core Coders applications are built to operate reliably in environments where connectivity may be limited or unavailable, including mountains, remote trails, ski resorts, and rural locations.
While some online features may require a connection, the core functionality of our applications continues to work offline. This ensures that customers can rely on our software wherever their activities take them.
Open Data and Portability
We believe your data belongs to you.
Whenever possible, Core Coders uses widely adopted and documented file formats such as:
- GPX
- KML
- CSV
- JSON
- XML
Where an application uses a specialised internal format, we provide documentation to allow customers to access, convert, and use their data independently.
For example, Bike Tracks includes a .bikez format for certain operations, but the format is documented and designed to be easily converted into standard industry formats.
We do not lock customers into our products by making their data inaccessible or difficult to export.
Why Do We Focus on Outdoor Sports and Health?
Our software is built around activities that encourage people to be active, explore the outdoors, and improve their wellbeing.
Whether recording a bike ride, analysing a ski day, tracking a hike, or monitoring personal health goals, our aim is to provide useful tools that support healthy and active lifestyles.
Technology should help people experience more of the real world—not replace it.
Our Commitment
Since 2007, Core Coders has remained committed to a simple set of principles:
- Build useful, reliable software.
- Respect customer privacy.
- Design products that work when they are needed most.
- Give customers ownership of their data.
- Create software that supports healthy, active lifestyles.
These principles continue to guide every product we develop.
