1.3.5 and 1.3.6 Known Issues

1.3.7 is now available we suggest all users upgrade to this version.

History and Startup Crashes

This has affect a small percentage of Ski Tracks users on both versions. We have found the issue is caused by an error in 1.3.5.

Work Around

Reboot your iPhone – a symptom of this issue is loading track locations when not necessary and some crashes are due to out of memory.
Download Ski Tracks Lite – you can store up to 5 tracks on the app but you can export the tracks and import them into the full version of Ski Tracks so you can continue to record as many tracks as you want.
Backup your existing tracks and re-install Ski Tracks – See the following for more information.
Continue to user Ski Tracks to record tracks but do not select the history and install 1.3.7 when available.

Duplicate History

This is a rare issue that is still under investigation

Work Around

DO NOT DELETE THE DUPLICATES – You will delete the actual track and it will be impossible to get it back.
Select the Date tab and ignore the custom tab.
Ski Tracks 1.3.7 has a check for duplicates references and if found will remove them.

Missing Tracks From History

After a lot of investigation we believe this bug is caused by the Ski Tracks history not being updated after a track is added.

Work Around

After you save a track just change the history view to Date, Rating, Season etc and the history will update and show your track.
Ski Tracks 1.3.7 automatically updates on adding new track.

Recovery Tracks – Tool (iPhone Ski Tracks)

Ski Tracks (iPhone) 1.3.7

These instructions are specific to 1.3.7 and above for the iPhone Ski Tracks application. If your version is less than 1.3.7 please update as soon as possible.

Question

When should I use the recovery tool?

Answer

If you have contact us with a support request and we have asked for the recovery file.

We use the recovery file to help us – the developers of Ski Tracks to view issues within Ski Tracks. The recovery tool creates a copy of your Tracks and all Settings allow us to build a complete copy of your Ski Tracks on our test environment and this helps us find any issues quickly.

Question

How do I use the Recovery Tool?

Answer

Within Ski Tracks on the iPhone there is a Tools section in the Settings view. This provides two tools for protecting and recovering your data. Recover Tracks does the following:

It creates an recovery.dat file that need to email to skitracks@corecoders.com so that we can recover all your tracks and we will send them back to you.

Pressing the Recover Tracks button will create an archive of your Ski Tracks data and settings. You will be given the option to email us directly your recovery file – if your recovery file is very large you may need to contact us to copy it to a share drive – we will supply the information. If you select to copy and email using iTunes.

Once we receiver your recovery file it might take up to 48 hours (although normally under 24 hours is normal) to recover the tracks and send them back to you. Currently this is manual process and we are in the process of automating this so it will be done completely online.

Using iTunes File Sharing

You will need your computer that you usually sync your phone with – or a computer with iTunes V10/11 that you can connect your phone to – we suggest using a physical cable for performance.

Once your iPhone is connected to a computer with iTunes – select your device from the devices list.

Now select the Apps tab at the top and scroll down until you see the File Sharing section. (See below)

Select Ski Tracks and drag the recover.dat file(s) to your computer and email them to us at skitracks@corecoders.com. We suggest that you use an email that we can email direct to your iPhone if possible.

Importing Tracks from SKIZ file

If you receive an email or link with SKIZ file(s) then you can import these files directly into Ski Tracks.

Normally if you receive an email attachment on your iPhone with .SKIZ you can import directly into your iPhone.

If you receive a link to a URL with the .SKIZ file(s) then you can normally open this in Safari on your iPhone and import by selecting the link.

If however you receive a lot of tracks and you want to make sure you don’t miss any then we suggest using iTunes File Sharing as you did when you created the recovery file(s). You can simply drag all the SKIZ file(s) into the File Sharing section as shown in the screen shot below:

If Ski Tracks is already running simply press the Home button and then select Ski Track icon and when it displays it will import all .SKIZ files it finds in Ski Tracks Documents area.

NOTES

In Ski Tracks versions 1.3.6 and lower import of SKIZ files only happens when you put Ski Tracks in background and the bring it into Foreground – on startup it will not import tracks. So make sure you upgrade to 1.3.7.

All SKIZ files must be in the Ski Tracks Documents area and not in a folder otherwise they will not get imported. (see the screen shot above).

Ski Tracks (Android) V1.1 Android Known Issues

Known Issues

When logging into Facebook, after giving the permission to Publish on your Facebook, some users are seeing the message “Login Failed. Please try again”. (Fixed V1.1.1)
When pressing the publish button, even though the users logged in to Facebook, “Login Failed. Please try again” is displayed. (Fixed V1.1.1)
When saving a track the application crashes for some users. (Fixed V1.1.3)
Issue when switching to the maps view it crashes (Fixed V1.1.6)
Saved tracks disappearing after restarting the application/device. (Fixed V1.1.3)
Map display a start point and tracking line without recording. (Fixed V1.1.4)
Maps crashing on devices with updated Google Play Services. This a bug created by Googles latest release.

Ski Tracks V1.1 for Android Now Available

V1.1 is now available for download on the Google Play Store.

Whats new?

Run-by-Run Analysis – You can now break down your days skiing and see individual run statistics as well as lifts.
Facebook sharing – Share your day on Facebook to show all of your friends.
KMZ File Sharing (V1.1.3) – Now you can view your day in Google Earth and share with friends.

Whats been fixed?

Fixed crash when viewing the history.
Fixed start up issue on some devices.
Fixed emailing images without locations.
Other minor bug fixes.

Ski Tracks (iPhone Version) – Backing up and restoring your tracks.

Backing up tracks

Backing up all your tracks is very easy simply go to the Ski Tracks Settings -> Tools -> Backup All Tracks

This will backup all your tracks to a shared documents directory that can be accessed by iTunes, this is called File Sharing and can be accessed by selecting your device in iTunes, then selecting Apps tab and then scrolling down to the bottom to find Ski Tracks in the File Sharing area.

Now copy the backup folder to your computer by either dragging the backup folder to your computers desktop or by pressing the Save As… button. Once you have done this your Ski Tracks history has been safely backed up on your computer.

If you are backing up your tracks to fix a crash problem with Ski Tracks history display please could you email us your tracks so that we can investigate the issue.

WARNING

DO NOT delete Ski Tracks application from your iPhone until you are sure that all your tracks are on your computer. Ski Tracks -> Tools -> Backup All Tracks only prepares the tracks to be copied from the phone – tracks in the Backup folder on your phone will be deleted if you delete Ski Tracks so make sure they are safely on your computer.

Restoring History

If you have copied a backup folder to your computer as shown above or you have a couple of SKIZ files that need to to be added to the history then please do the following:

You will need to connect your iPhone to iTunes and select the application File Sharing (shown above) and drag all the SKIZ files into Ski Tracks Document area in iTunes. Once this has been done run Ski Tracks – Ski Tracks will only start the process of importing once you close it and open it again. A importing progress bar should be displayed and all tracks with their photos will be imported into Ski Tracks history.

WARNING: Never delete Ski Tracks application until you are sure that all tracks are on your computer – just running Ski Tracks Tools -> Backup Tracks does not copy them from the phone.

Update 1.3.4 – MISSING TRACK ISSUE

Update 1.3.4 – Missing Track Issue

On some phones running iOS 6.x we have discovered that the track history is missing after the initial update – this is easily fixed by restarting Ski Tracks or by restarting your phone.

For 99% of users this has worked fine.

If you still are missing your tracks – then try the following:

Ski Tracks Settings -> Tools -> Recover Tracks

This will check to see if there are any unreferenced tracks in your Ski Tracks track area. It will create a file called something like recover1.dat you will need to copy this using iTunes document sharing (see the image below) and email it to us at skitracks@corecoders.com with the subject “PLEASE RECOVER”.

Missing Tracks

1.3.4 Update

If you have upgraded to 1.3.4 and you history is missing – please restart Ski Tracks or your iPhone to recover your tracks. For more information please checkout the following page.

Question

I have deleted Ski Tracks and lost my tracks – what can I do?

After an iOS update of my phone all my tracks have gone. What can I do?

Answer

Do not delete Ski Tracks app as this will delete all your data.

WARNING

The reasons are not clear why this happens but we believe it is possible a corruption of the app settings if causing this so we have a number of things you can try.

1. Restore All Tracks

Run Ski Tracks and go to Ski Tracks Settings
Now select Tools
Now select “Restore All Tracks”
If you see new tracks found then no further action is necessary

2. Restore Tracks from Previous iPhone Backup

This is more tricky so if you are not sure about any specific part of this please get in touch with us, we are not responsible for any loss of data on your phone by following these instructions
Change the name of your iPhone to “Current iPhone Settings” this can be done by going to Settings -> General -> About -> Name
Now go to iTunes and select your device and select backup device
Once the back up is done then you will need to find a previous back to restore your phone from – probably the last one before the update
Now restore the phone to the previous backup which is most likely to have all your tracks
Once the phone is restored – run Ski Tracks and select Settings -> Tools -> Backup All Tracks
Now using iTunes select your iPhone device and then selects Apps (top of iTunes screen) and scroll down to you see Document Sharing
Now select Ski Tracks in the document sharing section and you will see a backup folder copy this to your computer Desktop
Now restore your phone to the backup named “Current iPhone Settings” and once this is complete go back to the Document Sharing section in iTunes
Now select Ski Tracks and copy all the SKIZ files inside the backup folder on your desktop into the Sharing area
Now run Ski Tracks – press the home button and then press Ski Tracks again it will then restore all your tracks

Ski Tracks V1.0 (Android) Known Issues

There are a number of known issues with the current release of Ski Tracks for Android.

Crash on viewing Settings – this is known bug for some mobile devices and an update will be released shortly
Crash on maps – this issue is under investigation
Application does not startup – this issue is under investigation and only affects a very few mobile devices

We aim to address Ski Tracks Android issues on a daily basis.

Storage Requirements for Ski Tracks

Question

How much storage does each track require?

Answer

This is something we get asked a lot. The average Ski Track takes about 300kbytes or 3000 Ski Days = 1Gb. So we are pretty sure you will not run out of storage through just recording your Ski Day.

Photographs do take considerably more and range from 2-5Mb depending on detail and other factors.

However we always recommend that you have at least 300Mb spare on your phone before Skiing especially if you are using the video function of your phone.

iPod Touch & Ski Tracks

Question

Can Ski Tracks run on an iPod Touch?

Answer

The simple answer is NO. The current version of Ski Tracks is specifically encoded so that it will not install on any iPod Touch regardless of external GPS hardware.

The reason the Ski Tracks is encoded this way is to stop the confusion that customers have with location services available on the iPod Touch. The current generations of iPod Touch do not have a GPS receiver and therefore it would be impossible to use these devices for Tracking – so installing Ski Tracks on a standard iPod Touch would not work and this would frustrate our customers.

External GPS Hardware

Over the past few years a number of hardware manufacturers now provide bluetooth GPS receivers that can be used with the iPod Touch. We have been testing some of these units to see if they will work with Ski Tracks – the results are very promising with the accuracy being more than good enough for tracking.

Our plan is to create a version of Ski Tracks that will be fully compatible with existing Ski Tracks products but is specifically designed to run on an iPod Touch with external bluetooth GPS hardware. We will recommend a series of hardware devices that we have tested and work well.

We expect to release this version of Ski Tracks sometime in the future.
